11 Trends in Beauty: Skinification of Sun, Collagen Everything, Biomimic Foundation and More

C&T's "Consumer Pulse" series on the socials highlights the latest emerging searches and hashtags related to cosmetics. Here, we expand on those themes. This edition includes: Colin Farrell penguin makeup, YouCam makeup, Princess Cosmetics Qatar and the skinification of sun care, collagen masks and "collagen everything," biomimic foundation, espresso brown hair, skunk hair highlights and more. Following are specific growth statistics for each, plus a deeper dive into five that caught our interest.

Princess Cosmetics, Skinification of Sun Care

Searches for "princess cosmetics" could mean any number of things, especially considering we found no apparent headlines related to this topic. Regardless, Google Trends reports this query grew 90% in the past week. We at C&T followed this search to Princess Cosmetics Qatar, an online authorized seller that's been buzzing on social media thanks in part to two K-BEAUTY coupon codes (sorry, they expired).

Interestingly, the retail site is touting new arrivals, including the Round Lab 1025 Dokdo Sunscreen SPF 50+ PA++++. As you might expect from all the +'s, the product is described as powerful sunscreen especially designed for acne-prone and sensitive skin. It is said to block harsh UV rays and provide care ingredients for skin.

Indeed, it incorporates niacinamide to help reduce hyperpigmentation and brighten skin by easing redness from eczema, acne and inflammation. Also, small molecular weight hydrolyzed hyaluronic acid is included to permeate "deeper and better into skin," reducing the visibility of fine lines and wrinkles by restoring moisture, hydrating and plumping skin. (Yes, the skinification of sun care.)

Additional highlighted benefits include:

Collagen Mask, 'Collagen Everything' Meta Trend

According to Exploding Topics, interest in collagen masks has grown 324% (74K global Google search volume) in the past two years. This generally refers to skin care sheet masks designed to boost skin hydration and elasticity by delivering collagen directly to the skin.

According to the source, hydrolyzed collagen is a crucial component of these masks, acting as a humectant to help the skin retain moisture and improving texture. Additional extracts are also often included for antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits, contributing to overall skin health and radiance.

Collagen masks are said to be part of a "collagen everything" meta trend, including other popular products such as collagen matcha, a blend of matcha green tea and collagen peptides; edible collagen sticks; collagen hair masks for deep conditioning; and more.

Biomimic Foundation

Also per Exploding Topics, biomimic foundations have trended up by 99X+% (5.4K global Google search volume) in the past two years. Per the source, these products are "designed to mimic the natural properties and behaviors of human skin, providing seamless and natural-looking coverage." Reportedly, they also often incorporate technologies inspired by biological processes to enhance skin compatibility, hydration and breathability. 

Notably, Biomimic is also a brand from Forever Bloom. The company's site highlights the Biomimic Foundation 4-in-1 Light, Medium and Dark (coming soon) Spectrum products. According to the company, the formulas provide "de-aging" effects, moisturize skin and even skin tone. They also feature a color mimic technology.

• lasts all day without creasing,

• antioxidant benefits.

Espresso Brown Hair, Skunk Highlights

Finally, Spate recently reported that with fall in the air, consumers are shifting their hair colors from playful summer shades to "something more demure." Per the source, the fastest-growing hair color looks of the moment are espresso brown hair and skunk highlights.

Espresso brown has an average of 2.5K monthly searches and has grown 389.5% in searches, year over year. Interestingly, according to Spate, there’s only one branded query, L'Oréal Hair Color Espresso Brown, indicating an opportunity for other boxed hair dye brands to tap into this trend. Adding espresso to their packaging for similarly toned brown shades could resonate with consumers. 

Skunk highlights is another emerging trend, with an average of 3.6K monthly searches and a 205.9% growth, year over year. Spate describes this look as exactly what it sounds like — a chunky platinum blonde highlight running through jet black hair, although there are many variations.
